Northampton WEEE Recycling
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) was introduced in January 2007. The WEEE Directive intends to decrease the quantity of electric and electronic equipment being produced and to encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it.

The UK makes over a million tonnes of WEEE each year from domestic and commercial sources.
Everyone should know that under the WEEE Directive it is illegal to dispose of waste electric and electronic equipment to landfill.

The WEEE Directive affects companies, distributors and recyclers of electrical and electronic equipment and encompasses everything from electronic games, calculators, toasters and kettles to audio equipment, refrigerators, washing machines, commercial and industrial equipment. When set into landfill, WEEE relinquishes its toxins and pollutes the environment. The EU introduced a directive directed at reducing WEEE, supporting reuse, recovery of its foundation substances and reducing the environmental effect of disposal. The WEEE Directive has passed into law in all member states.

Waste Management Northampton have supplied a Waste Electrical and Electronics Equipment (WEEE) disposal service from the beginning but we’re now carrying out more WEEE recycling as an increasingly important part of our service to companies as IT gear contains a mix of hazardous waste such as gases, substances and batteries on motherboards in addition to useful metals.

We therefore safely dispose of and recycle your old IT equipment including computers, VDUs, printers and CRT/LCD screens. In addition, we recycle other electronic hardware including TVs, tapes, floppy disks, CDs and DVDs, all in compliance with European Directives (WEEE) and UK legislation.

IT gear recycling involves stripping down and separating the various material parts in the gear. The majority of IT gear presently accumulated is shredded and processed but the ferrous, non-ferrous and precious metals are now recovered from the gear and sent for recycling generating a worth and saving you cash.

WEEE Recycling Containers
